OWEGO ROTARY PROJECTS, INC.

A New York not-for-profit corporation was established on August 9, 2022. The corporation is
authorized to prepare and submit the Form 1023-EZ federal tax exemption application to the
Internal Revenue Service and the application for sales tax exempt status to the New York State
Tax Department. Additionally, the corporation is registered as a charity with the Charities
Bureau of the New York State Attorney General’s Charities Bureau.

 

 

Purposes:
The corporation’s primary objective is to advance the public interest of the residents of Owego,
New York, by acquiring and enhancing real property for conservation and recreational purposes
on behalf of the public. The corporation also engages in other community-oriented projects as
determined by the Board of Directors.

 

 

Activities:

 

 

 

CANAWANNA
The corporation is responsible for overseeing the planning and development of Canawanna
Nature Preserve in Owego. Furthermore, the corporation facilitates the donation of private land
within Canawanna Nature Preserve to the Southern Tier Land Trust.
It received a grant to procure equipment for establishing and clearing trails within the Preserve.
This is flood prone land. We are planting native trees and building hugelkulturs for flora and
fauna.

 

          

 

 

 

COURT ST. SENTRY PARK

 

 

 

The Sentry Park was established to enhance the existing posts that guard the Court St. Bridge.
These posts have remained unused for the past two decades. Owego Rotary Club decided to
infuse the park with historical significance and provide a soapbox style platform for future
aspiring authors, artists, and notable individuals to announce their endeavors.
To achieve this, we conducted research on individuals who have made substantial
contributions to society beyond our county prior to the year 2000.
Bronze plaques are affixed to the interior of the brick columns. Scanning the QR code
connects visitors to this website, where they can access a concise biography of the individuals.
A grant has been secured to establish Sentry Park and the northern terminus of the Court
Street bridge.

Establishing a trail along the Owego Creek
Exploring the feasibility of an ice skating rink
