Youth Programs
Youth Exchange: The Rotary Youth Exchange program provides the opportunity for high school students ages 15-19 to spend an academic year in another country, immersing themselves in a new culture, learning a new language and building lifelong friendships. Rotary's exceptional exchange program enriches the lives of students and of the communities they visit.
Here is a list of activities you can do when you host a Youth Exchange student in your home!
Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA): RYLA is a leadership training program for talented high school juniors. The workshop is typically 3 days in length and provides opportunities for students to improve leadership and communications skills and explore relevant issues of the day while having fun and making friends.
RYLA participants are nominated by local Rotary clubs. Learn more about RYLA events in our area, photos of past events, and information on how to apply.
Interact Clubs: Interact is a service and social club for high school students. Students participate in service projects in both their school and their community. Owego Rotary provides a grant opportunity to assist Interact Clubs in the development and implementation of substantive community projects. A Rotary member meets with the club members twice monthly to provide guidance and updates on current service projects in need of help.
Rotaract Clubs: Rotaract is a service and social club for people 18 and older to exchange ideas, develop leadership and professional skills, and to have fun through service. A new Rotaract club may soon be forming in our area! There is a lot of enthusiasm among students that have had previous involvement in Interact Club, youth exchange, and/or RYLA.
Scholarships: Each year $1,000 scholarships are awarded to a select number of graduating seniors from local high schools. Scholarship recipients are chosen based upon school and community service activities, leadership experience and academic excellence.
