Gary Williams, Editor

You feel happiness through what you experience, not because of what you are.

Congratulations to Annette for pulling off the meeting under extremely challenging conditions.

BIKE TIOGA:

Al thanked everyone who has already signed up, but he still needs more volunteers. He also thanked people about their concern about his knee.

Dues are due

Board of Directors will meet at 7:30 AM on Thursday.

Joao: Laura will send out an email about Joao’s departure from Broome County Airport on Sunday.

FINES:

John Spencer lauded Fred Strauss’ cooking at the Dick’s Open and fined anyone who did not partake of his bacon and eggs.

Art Walk this Friday.

Carole has been lent a diary from 1778 and is enjoying working her way through it.

Laura Betcher is arriving at the airport this afternoon at 4:30. It is wonderful to have service people return whole and healthy.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MATT ON THE PURCHASE OF AN EXCLUSIVE (AND EXPENSIVE) SET OF GLASSES!

For the Vocational Assembly, John Jones and Mike Ebbers told about their careers. This was excellent and gives Mike Slavetskas an opportunity to speak next week under better conditions. It is interesting that both John and Mike spent years teaching and found it to be very satisfying. Although it has not been proven, I postulate that we inherit a predisposition to teach. We do inherit potential traits as we also inherit potential physical characteristics. So many people are drawn to teaching and find it satisfying and we could not have survived as a species without teaching the following generations, particularly before there was a written word, widespread literacy, and printing. It reminds me of the young medicine woman in The Clan of the Cave Bear which I suspect a number of us read, but many years ago. It was interesting to have Mike describe the situation at IBM of being the opposite of the 80/20 split that he anticipated. While he expected the technical to be the 80%, it turned out to be the interaction with people and politics which was the 80%. This may burn us out, particularly as we approach the end of our working careers, but we also have the perspective to understand that it is this way and we can’t predict how it would be any other way since it depends on our natures.
