BRING MONEY THE FIRST WEEK IN JULY IF THERE ARE STRAWBERRIES LEFT TO SELL!
As I looked around at the meeting today as we come to the end of another excellent year, the room was full of members who make important contributions on an ongoing basis. New members have made a huge contribution in the last six years or so, but as I was sitting next to Steve who has done such a good job on the programs this year, I noted those members who have been making contributions for 20 years or more starting with our President, Matt and including Steve (1984), Hal (1972), Fred (who originally became a member in Cortland in 1965), John Jones who was a member from 1982 in the mid-west), Bill Moon (1988), Richard (1984), and John Spencer (1980).
Laura introduced Mati who spoke about his 300 days and his great variety of experiences under three categories; change, memories, and friends. He demonstrated these with many pictures and emphasized the importance of Laura and her smile to his success and the success of the entire program in our Club.
Orv asked a key question about what was different from what Mati (and Joao) expected. I remember one of my early experiences with exchange students when I was transporting a girl from Finland to a meeting. In her country, they had naked co-ed swimming, which shocked me. Her surprise was that her expectations were based on the two American television shows which were being broadcast in Finland at that time, “All in the Family” and “Kojak”. She expected gangsters all over and her parents were concerned for her safety and the cultural humor was difficult to appreciate.
