A true Rotarian will:

Care more than others think is wise.

Risk more than others think is safe.

Dream more than others think is practical.

Expect more than others think is possible.

                        Bradley N. Stanton, PDG 7450

MUSIC:

Matt led us in “R-O-T-A-R-Y”

“They said persons could never fly like a bird, remembering Icarus. Then Orville Wright showed that this was possible – and Orville was a Rotarian.”

I bumped into Warren Haas today and he asked to be remembered to everyone.

Laura shared the news that Marv Potter died yesterday.

STUDENTS:

Al will bring Joao and Mati to the meetings for the first half of June and Bill will bring them for the last two weeks.

PLANTING:

We will be helping make Owego more beautiful through plantings on June 7, at 8:30 AM.

DICK’S OPEN:

John is asking for volunteers. Those who sign up will be invited to a party on Friday, June 27.

Joao attended the NV prom which he enjoyed, helped his host family with yard work and will make his presentation to the Club next week. He will be raffling some items from Brazil. The proceeds will go to the NV Interact Club.

Mati has also been helping around the yard. He got to see “Indiana Jones” this weekend and his prom is this Friday.

PROGRAM:

Steve has continued his stretch of interesting and informative speakers. Duke Carroll has an insurance agency in Elmira. He is a native of Elmira and a graduate of Ithaca College where he played football. He has been an NFL official for 13 years and he told how he ascended to that position, shared some anecdotes and answered questions.

Duke’s presentation and his calm in face of personal attack reminds me of a book which I recommend, The Power of Resilience by Robert Brooks. Perhaps it is just my sensitivity or it is the people I tend to see, but resilience is continuously challenged. How we handle this is a major determinant of how our lives will be. Things that charge our resilience, like Rotary for example, are really important. I hope that everyone had some quiet time for reflection during the holiday.
