I am available. I am dependable. I give more than I take. I am a Rotarian. Robert Barth, RI President 1993-1994.
GUEST:
We are fortunate that the woman of Al’s dreams is real and we welcomed Lois.
MUSIC:
Carl and Carole led us in, “This Land is Your Land” (Woody Guthrie)
FINES:
Mati and Joao did the fines. I don’t think that many of us could remember exactly where they are from in Germany and Brazil.
Carole is going to be a great-grandmother, which most of us cannot understand.
Orv shared the pleasurable experience that he and Carolyn had of attending the charter ceremony of two new Interact Clubs (Cortland and Homer), both sponsored by the Cortland Club.
Bill Russell is pleased to report that the bear which was sited has not eaten any children and he was anticipating today’s vote (and all of us voting).

UPCOMING EVENTS:
- June 7th - planting the flowerbeds at the 3 entrances to the village. If we could get good turnout like we did for the flowerbed preparation, this should take no time at all.
- June 21st - Strawberry Festival. We will need a lot of help. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. This year we will be manning 3 booths. One for strawberry shortcake, one for strawberry cheesecake and one is a Rotary information booth. We will need people for setup, people for serving at the two food booths, cashiers to take the money, people to take down at the end of the day. Remember, the proceeds from the new Cheesecake booth will go towards fulfilling our commitment to the Owego Community Pool.
- June 24th - Paul Harris dinner and pass the gavel event. This will be our annual dinner to recognize new Paul Harris recipients. This is also my opportunity to thank people for their assistance during this past year. The dinner will be only $15 (thanks again to Laura), and it will be held at the Treadway at 6:30 pm.
- July 2nd through July 6th - Dick's Sporting Goods Golf Tournament. This is another big fundraiser which is a lot of fun to participate in. We will need a lot of assistance serving the pros food on Wednesday and Thursday, along with manning food booths throughout the tournament. By working some shifts, you get into the tournament for free. This is a great opportunity to earn some money for our Rotary club and have fun with fellow Rotarians while doing it. Since we will be needing quite a few volunteers, friends and family workers are more than welcome.
Joao was chosen as “most outgoing” Richard helped him to purchase his tickets to go home. His prom is on Friday and he took a friend to the Dryden prom.
Mati talked about the Apalachin yard sale.
HOST FAMILIES:
We still need two more host families for the young lady from Belgium who will be in Owego and the young man who will be in Newark Valley.
PROGRAM:
Steve introduced Ed Arrington who shared the state of the village. There is a $2.9 million budget. Ed discussed the Court, Village Clerk, Fire Department (269 fire calls and 1663 EMS calls) in 2007, Owego Police, Department of Public Works, and the Waste Water Treatment. It was important information and I am sorry that I had to duck-out before Ed was finished.
