VISITORS AND GUESTS:

Mati was present with blue/purple hair, dyed by next year’s outbound student from our club.

SONG:

Carl and Carolyn led us in a rousing version of “God Bless America.”

FINES:

Matt fined Orv for the Press & Sun-Bulletin article which failed to mention Rotary. Matt paid the fine himself when he learned that Orv’s submission to the paper actually featured Rotary, but was not included in the published article. Carolyn Galatzan (the official fine master) fined those who had not yet done any yard work. John and Harry were fined for their social gaffes.

HAPPY DOLLARS:

Amidst other happiness, Carole LePlante was happy to have had the opportunity to spray a skunk (for fleas) and Matt was happy about the new member orientation that was held last week.

HIGHWAY CLEAN-UP and GARDEN WEEDING are scheduled for Saturday, April 26 beginning at 8:30 a.m.

FUTURE PROGRAMS:

Tuesday, April 22: Fran Angeline, former U-E football coach and author.

Later programs: Michelle Evans from Lockheed Martin and fellow Rotarian and Village of Owego mayor, Ed Arrington.

PROGRAM:

Tina Turner spoke about the Angel Action Group Workcamp to be held in Owego from July 27 to August 2, 2008. Three hundred young men and women from church youth groups will live and eat at Owego Free Academy for the week and will do construction work on 50 to 60 houses in the area. These young people pay to attend this camp and do this work.

Senior, disabled, and needy home owners have already applied for porch and step repair, wheelchair ramp construction, and interior/exterior painting. This is the second year this workcamp has been held in Owego.

Volunteers are needed to act as site surveyors (to visit houses and assess needs and material requirements now) and as site advisors (to work with the students this summer). Anyone interested in helping should contact Tina Thomas at Tioga Opportunities, 687-4120 ext. 329.
