Highlights of the January 17, 2008 BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

December attendance: 71%; 100% attendance: 22; 60 members at end of December. Inductions: Marcus O’Rourke; terminations: Jack McCreary; resignations received: none; applications received in December: none.

STAP, SOUTHERN TIER AIDS PROGRAM: Will hold a collection for three weeks in February to support this District effort. Dire need for the following products: diapers, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper, band-aids, pump soap, toothbrushes, paper towels, shaving cream and plastic razors.

Requests for funding:

Rotary Leadership Institute, March 29, 2008: agreed to offer continuing classes for those already in program and to encourage new members to begin Course I at Owego Rotary expense.

District 7170 Conference: Discussion about using funds previously targeted for officers to attend and stay overnight at other years’ conferences for incentives for more members to attend the conference held in Owego on a day basis.

Youth Services: Inbound orientation will take place at Cortland/Homer February 7th. Students will need rides with a return Saturday, February 9th.

Membership: special new/prospective member meeting and program taking place February 5.

Progressive Dinner: scheduled for Leap Day, February 29, 2008. Sign up with Judy or Carolyn.

Dick’s Open: John reported Owego Rotary has greater responsibilities at a larger tent Wednesday through Sunday.

Next meeting Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 7:30 a.m. at Owego Treadway Inn. All are invited.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE:

Orv gave details about the conference which will be held at The Treadway on May 2 – 4.

PROGRAM:

Steve introduced yet another interesting program. Dave Henderson spoke about his life as a writer – satisfying, but perhaps not as lucrative or glamorous as we might project. He also answered a few questions most knowledgably.
