THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

“It’s easy to make a buck. It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.” (Tom Brokaw at a meeting Matt attended last week.)

GUESTS:

Joe Palladino; Kathy Vasilopoulis; Andy Chrysler; Jason Siegel and Kevin Broadus of Binghamton University; Amanda Duffy of Interact; and Mati and Joao

MUSIC:

Carl led us in “Smile”

FINES:

John Spencer fined travelers, those who had been away from Rotary for a while, and anyone who hadn’t sold a raffle ticket.

HAPPY DOLLARS:

Paul, Dave Sedelmeyer, and Al were all happy. Orv was especially happy that he had all of his children and six of his grandchildren in attendance when he was inducted into the Central Bucks (PA) Hall of Fame recently. Bill Russell was happy and grateful for Rotary’s contribution to the fund to get community swimming back in the Owego pool.

RAFFLE TICKETS:

There are lots of tickets left that must be sold by well before the drawing on October 30. Sell those tickets, then get more from John Spencer at the bookstore.

LANCASTER TRIP:

There are 9 seats left on the bus for the trip to Lancaster on Sunday, December 9. Please call Richard Schaal at 687-4144

ROTARY FOUNDATION DINNER:

October 24, at the Heritage in Endicott

EXCHANGE STUDENT REPORTS:

Mati and Joao had good weeks. Mati’s soccer team beat ME and Joao is “frozen” but happier each day to be here.

INTERACT:

Amanda Duffy reported that Interact is organizing to participate in the CROP Walk on October 28.

YOUTH EXCHANGE OUTBOUND INTERVIEWS:

Laura needs volunteers to interview potential outbound students at OFA on Saturday, November 10, from 9 to 4. Laura can be reached at 687-4500.

JAN PIERSON is at Binghamton General Hospital on the 4th floor and would like very much to have visitors.

INDUCTIONS:

Jack McCreary, Donna Townsend, and Mike Ebbers were inducted today, bringing to 8 the total of new members since July. Be thinking about how they can become involved in the life of the club.

PROGRAM:

Kevin Broadus, head coach of Binghamton University’s men's varsity basketball team, spoke about his background and about coaching. Kevin came to coaching almost by accident having owned and run a hair salon with his wife. He has coached at American University, George Washington University, and most recently at Georgetown University. He is working to build the BU program and appreciates community support. He has high expectations for his team and tells his players that if they “work hard and get lucky, they can be pretty good.”

FUTURE PROGRAMS:

50/50: Orv.

(Why do we even draw each week?) He gave his winnings to the Interact club for the Crop Walk.
