Orv shared accolades for the students who are involved in Interact.

HIGHWAY CLEAN-UP:

We are pleased to announce that Carol Cavataio will be rejoining the Club. Carol is a past-secretary.

Mrinalini went to Erie with the Richters and spent a week in Boston. She was not here last Tuesday due to a bomb threat in their school. The Spring Fling was their best dance of the year. She told us about the symbolism in the dance she did for us. She got to the Mall for four consecutive days.

Suzanne’s parents did not come but they may get here in June. On Tuesday, she and Carolyn went to Cortland to make a presentation on Interact. She also attended the dance in Newark Valley on Friday and she met another student from the Netherlands. Suzanne did not go shopping this week. It was the first time I paid on my bargain with Suzanne and Mrinalini.

PROGRAM:

Tom Trescott spoke on Interact. This has been quite an effort. Laura and Carolyn got it started and Carolyn had to battle skepticism in the beginning. Tom and Debbie Demers have made it happen at the school level and the students have been exceptional. The administration has been supportive and the attitude all around has been that “it can be done”. The officers meet on Tuesday mornings and the Club meets on Tuesday afternoons for ˝ hour. This enables those who participate in afternoon activities to do both. All of the officers contributed to the presentation. As of four years ago, there were over 200,000 Interact students in the world in 8600 clubs in 110 countries.

Orv emphasized how Interact energizes our club and marveled at the list of their accomplishments.

Highlights- April 19, 2007 Owego Rotary Board Meeting

March attendance -76%; 100% attendance - 22; total - 57 members, after moving Glenn Strope to honorary status and adding Ann Loudermilk.

• Strawberry Festival, June 16th. We will have two adjacent booths, one for selling strawberry shortcake and the other for rest, eating and promoting Rotary. Raffle tickets will be available for sale.
• Because of schedule and time, there will be a change in future leadership. Maria Dixson, current president nominee/vice president, will change places with Annette Schweiger. Annette will move into the position of president nominee/vice president for 2008-2009 and Maria will assume the position for the following Rotary year.

Announcements:

• Voting for three new board members will take place May 1st. It will also be a birthday celebration for exchange students.
• Newark Valley Interact is looking for chaperones for their spring dance Friday evening, April 27th. Contact Debbie Demers or Carolyn Wright.
• Road cleanup will be Saturday, May 12th. Flowerbed planting work time will be announced.
• The process to update club bylaws, through efforts of Karla Johnson as committee chair, continues.
• Meeting credit will be given for those Rotarians who participate in the Relay For Life Cancer walk in July.

Next board meeting 7:30 AM May 17, 2007 at 7:30 AM at the Treadway. All are welcome.
