HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Bob Fisher on the 13th
Orv and Carolyn led us in The Get Together Song. The piano was great, but Maria said that she has heard it sung better at library story hours.
Susanne enjoyed Easter celebrations and did “normal things.” No shopping this week, though. Mrinalini and Interacters were absent.
Kevin Johnson gave a very informative program on new procedures for dental implants. Kevin, an Air Force retiree, is a Certified Dental Laboratory Technician at Progressive Dental Labs in Endwell. New procedures in implants involve inserting titanium alloy screws into the jaw. Osteointegration then takes place over six months and permanently bonds the screw to the jaw bone. A crown is later glued or screwed into the implant. This method avoids having to reduce the size of surrounding teeth as in the traditional crowns and bridge tooth replacement technique. Partial dentures can now be fixed and removed from permanently inserted titanium posts in the jaw allowing dentures to be firm and steady and wearers to eat foods they have not had in years. Titanium is not rejected by the body which is what makes this procedure possible. A non-dental application of the titanium technology is in prosthetic fingers and limbs which can be attached to posts in the bones.
