It is good to hear that Carole’s granddaughter who was in the car accident is doing much better.

Orv ran today’s meeting in Al’s absence.

Orv recommended the article by the new RI President in the latest issue of The Rotarian. The theme will be “Rotary Shares”.

Rotary movie review and shopping team:

Mrinalini panned “Ghost Rider” but I believe that it was two thumbs-up for “Norbit”. Mrinalini will be moving to a new host family this weekend. Suzanne visited Kendra at the University of Rochester with Wendy and Colin. She also went skiing with Fred and Gillian Strauss and went shopping in Syracuse with Karla.

PROGRAM:

Sharon introduced Vanesa Gregory, Van Gregory, and Theresa Sarnoski from Lazer Innovations, who presented their histories and what they do with lasers for cosmetic enhancement.

I am pleased to share that Ann Lowdermilk has been proposed for membership in the Owego Rotary Club.

EPILOGUE:

I put these at the end so it is easy to choose not to read them since they are not directly related to Rotary or the week’s meeting. I am reading a book which I find to be interesting entitled: When Presidents Lie. It discusses lies in general and then covers four specific instances of lying.

The following caught my attention since most of us deal with systems to some degree or another and they are part of the degree of success we have in our days.

Systems, in many respects, resemble machines. A machine is a little system created to perform, as well as to connect together in reality those different movements and effects which the artist has occasion for. A system is an imaginary machine invented to connect those different movements and effects which are already in reality formed.

While this may not seem profound in 2007, I find it particularly interesting because it was written by Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations which was published in 1776. It is also of note that he taught and wrote on ethics and morality before he wrote on economics.
