VISITORS AND GUESTS:

Suzanne and Mrinalini were with us.

It was also good to have Fred back and both Maria and Vern were here.

It was a special meeting, but I did not get to see it on television.

FINES:

Steve fined everyone whose birthday falls on an odd date.

Richard shared that they are pleased to have Suzanne with them and also shared how nice it is to see the attachments she made with Karla’s family.

MUSIC:

Carl and Carolyn led us in “R-O-T-A-R-Y”

Bernie said that many Interact students have signed up to help with the Christmas party. She needs the gifts by December 12.

POINSETTIAS:

Bill reminded everyone that the system is different than it was in years past. He needs to have three days lead time to get the plants. He will bring them to Rotary or bring them to Riverrow Books. He needs to know what colors you want, the number of plants, where you want them and when.

CHRISTMAS PARTY:

Laura is still looking for members to be involved with the students this weekend. Food would help as would help with clean-up (or even money).

PROGRAM:

Suzanne (black Pete) Schagen led the way for Sinterklaas to come to our meeting. (Years ago, Santa Claus used to come and give gifts [Bob Merrill]). This was very special. Bill Highfield played the role of Sinterklaas. He also brought items for members to see from his extensive collection. Suzanne told the story, acted the part, and passed out a very nice summary. As Sinterklaas said, “Legends may not be true, but they tell a truth.” Sinterklaas told his history and also spoke about the candy cane which is like both a sheppard’s hook and also a crosier.

Black Pete told us that you can sing a song of your wish list prior to December 5. Sinterklaas had gifts for those Rotarians who have been particularly good; Carl, Judy, Karla, Harry, Bill, John Spencer, Laura, Hal, Al Bingley, and Orv and Carolyn.

Suzanne shared with us that, once you are past the age for Santa Claus, you write a poem in which you try to embarrass a friend.

50/50 John Spencer
