Carl and Carole led us in “America the Beautiful.”
Ed Arrington fined those who did not go to the pumpkin festival.
Orv and Carolyn were happy to have been in California last week and also happy to be home. Several people were happy that the Rotary table at the Tioga Chamber of Commerce business show was a success.
Our guests spoke about MySpace.com, the internet site popular with children and teens. We saw sample pages, learned about the content, and heard some cautions about the site. Over 110 million people world-wide now use MySpace for blogging, chatting, forums, email, groups, games, music, and more. Users create home pages with personal information and links to friends. The pages can be set to “private” so only authorized persons can view the pages and anyone under 18 is automatically set to private. Security concerns abound as there is no verification or limitation of information young people give about themselves and no checking of actual ages. Many high schools have MySpace sites which are closely watched. MySpace is only one of the online communities frequented by young people.
Note from Judy Kip: We have a black metal easel left from the business show last week. If it’s yours please let me know (687-0993) and I will get it to you.
