PROGRAM:

John Jones shared another of his trips with us. This one was a cruise last month on the Dnieper River through the Ukraine. I really appreciate this ability to see the world second-hand. I suspect that I will never get there. Maria and Mark Dixson got to Russia a couple of years ago and this is John’s second trip to that area. The Ukraine was devastated in WW II. The Germans massacred many of the citizens and many were lost directly due to the war and due to starvation and disease. Russia lost more people than any other country during the war and no one knows how many. It may have been as many as 6 million.

John showed many rebuilt buildings, especially Russian Orthodox churches. He said that Europe is also full of casinos which are run by the national governments. The Ukraine is doing well compared with many other countries in that part of the world and there is a great deal of construction going on. He showed the round table which was used at Yalta. A round table was decided on after it became obvious that a seating arrangement could not be decided on at a rectangular table.

50/50 Judy!
