Attention: Bob Korba. Enjoy your birthday tomorrow. I am very touched at being presented with a gift for the years that I have done the bulletin. I started when Bob was President. This has truly been an outstanding year for our Club. It is difficult to believe that Judy has only been in the Club five years as of today. Our new members have brought so much energy, creativity, and direction to the Club.
Carl and Wilma (speaking of new members) led us in, "For She’s a Jolly Good Lady".
John Spencer announced that he needs 90 volunteers. The tournament is on July 13 – 17. John will get us the three best booths that he can. Last year we received $2500 for our efforts. The schedule is to work a four-hour shift. You can then spend the rest of the day following the golfers. Shifts are 10:00 – 2:00 and 2:00 – 6:00. Please see John to sign up, call him (687-4094) or email him at john@rarebooks.to
Next week, Orv and Carolyn will report on the 100th anniversary meeting of RI.
Hal announced that he has sold three tickets through the mail so far. Please get out and sell and return the stubs and money to Hal regularly to make it easier for him to keep track. The drawing will be the last Tuesday in August.
Orv welcomed Kay back. It is nice to have people who are so interested. Paul reminded us of the free meal that Kay provided for everyone in the Club. Kay gave us a brief history of how her work became leveraged – for which the community has benefitted significantly.
John was pleased to by Judy’s sponsor (and rightly so). He gave her a long shoe-horn so she wouldn’t have to reach so far, a large fly-swatter, and a hand on a stick so she can wave to Bob in crowds.
Judy commented that the Owego Rotary Club is a group of generous people. The members of the Club are truly Rotarians, not just people with a name tag who attend some meetings. She read off a list of the contributions that the Club made this year and also our hands-on projects. She also had many members to thank for their contributions. A new category was created this year, "Friends of Rotary" and we will present an award to Michelle the next week that she is here.
John Jones was in Chicago during the convention. He took photos and passed them around.
Judy, 5 years today. Jody rejoined the Club in 2001. Tom Milligan joined in June 1971 (in Binghamton). Richard in 1984 (how can that be in the past?) Carolyn and Orv joined in 2001.
Carolyn went over the attendance figures for the year. Harry has 16 years of perfect attence, John Spencer has 26 years, and Paul has a similar amount. Many people did well this year and our attendance is up somewhat from last year.
Judy got a new gavel so she could pass it on to Orv. She bid on the Past President’s prize and won it for $50. Orv mentioned that people in the District repeatedly mention that they are impressed with the Club for our projects, our member growth, and our student services.
