Welcome back to Staci!

VISITORS AND GUESTS:

MUSIC:

Carl and Wilma led us singing, "In the Good Old Summertime"

Andres and Jose have figured out the bus schedule from Vestal to the Oakdale Mall. I appreciate how reading a bus schedule is used as a measure of minimal literacy. I hate to confess that I have had significant problems trying to decipher some bus schedules. Congratulations to the boys! They have been to Howe Caverns and a Peruvian – Jewish wedding.

PASS THE GAVEL – There will be desserts at the Kipp’s at 7:00 PM next Tuesday.

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL:

Matt reported that we did well, partially because we raised the fee to $3.50. Matt also sold all of the berries and cakes that were left at the meeting. He purchased two tents: 12 X12 and 10 X 10. They are at Steve Lounsberry’s

RAFFLE:

Hal kicked off the raffle and passed out tickets. We have 250 to sell this year.

FINES:

Orv won and John Spencer filled in since Orv and Carolyn are in Chicago at the 100 year celebration of Rotary

PROGRAM:

Andres showed us pictures, told us about his year, told us about becoming an exchange student, about himself, and how the experience changed him. He has two older brothers who had come to Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Being an exchange student has broadened his view and has helped him to grow. Being away from his family has been a challenge. This winter, every day was the coldest day of his life (but he did enjoy skiing). He was homesick the first two months. Andres also brought a warrior costume for us to see.

All of Andres’ grandparents and all of Jose’s grandparents are from Europe. That makes both of them (as are Linda and I) third generation Americans.

50/50 Doyle

In July, the returning students will be presenting and we will get to hear Staci.

Ataxy (from Peter Bowler) n. Disturbance of bodily functions, especially that of motion. The interest of this word lies largely in the fact that it is pronounced exactly the same as "a taxi". The serious lexicologist should have at his command as many as possible such words, which permit the quiet enjoyment of many a deliberate ambiguity, in friendly or unfriendly discourse.
