GUESTS:

Andres and Jose: Andres went on a class trip to Darien Lake yesterday and had a wonderful time.

BIRTHDAYS:

Bill Nolis, Leah, Barb, and Priscilla

MUSIC:

Orv and Carole led us in, "Enjoy Yourself"

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL:

Matt still needs more volunteers. I am saddened to report that Matt’s mother suffered extensive burns and is in a burn-care unit in a hospital in CA. Our thoughts are with Matt and his family.

We will have two side-by-side booths. The second booth will be a Rotary Information booth and Hal has had a wonderful poster made up. Bob Kingston came up with the idea of having a baby changing station. We will be selling our raffle tickets at the sit-down area. If anyone did not get an email from Hal this week, please respond to the bulletin and I will pass the information on to Hal.

SEND-OFF PICNIC:

There is an end-of-the-year picnic for the exchange students in Bainbridge this Saturday. If you can transport the boys, please let Laura know.

YOUTH SERVICES COMMITTEE:

Laura’s committee will be meeting at 7:30 AM tomorrow.

CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE:

There was a meeting of the Centennial Committee this afternoon at Judy’s at 4:00 PM

Al Sunderwirth thanked Carl, Doyle, and Mike for getting the letter to the right person at Lockheed-Martin. Judy was also involved.

FINES:

Richard fined his table because no women were present and then fined all of the women because they did not come to the table (and then, for good measure, he fined everyone else).

DISTRICT:

Orv attended a meeting this AM with the assistance DG and the incoming presidents of a number of the local clubs. The Owego Club was pointed out as the only club who is not having a loss of members.

PROGRAM:

Steve introduced Patrick McMahon and John Ferencik who presented information about the Wound Care Unit and Hyperbaric Treatments. (It wasn’t quite as bad as the doctor that we had from Guthrie about 20 years ago who discussed colonoscopy as we were eating.) In a hyperbaric chamber the whole body is in a unit with 2 atmospheres of 100% oxygen. This has been shown to spend healing in a number of different conditions. The sessions are two hours long and the usual course of treatment is 30 to 60 sessions. The hospital cost to the patient is $1150 per session. It is like diving to 33 feet deep in the water. Only 5 to 10% are claustrophobic and cannot tolerate the test.

50/50 Mike

from Peter Bowler: APROSEXIA: Inability to concentrate. Not, as might incautiously be assumed, apres-sex activities. Useful when completing the "nature of illness" section on your sick-leave application form.

ARCANE: Secret, hidden. An excellent example of a Superior Word of the first order, i.e., one that is on the margin of recognition for most people, is known by many, but used by few. Suggestive of strange and wonderful mysteries and powerful knowledge.
