While it may be budget time and we had a good presentation on this important subject today, I hope that everyone noticed what a spectacularly beautiful day it was. As I am writing this, it is 8:00PM and it is still quite light (and warm)!
THERE WILL BE A MEETING NEXT TUESDAY!
Fred missed out singing to him today. Jan Pierson’s is on the 12th.
Orv reported that the Villa Roma historically represents the 1930’s and that our Club did well, particularly in winning the District Service Award. He also stated that not all of the Clubs were represented which is unusual.
It is good to see that Matt is feeling better. Since he may be away for the Strawberry Festival, he will need assistance on that day. He will take care of the preparations. The Festival is on June 18.
Karla used material from the Rotarian for fines. We should all be a little more knowledgeable.
Lindsey Adler has photos in Barnes & Noble. She will also be doing an internship in DC this summer.
DON’T MISS THIS THURSDAY’S MEETING AT WHICH CAROLE WILL BE SPEAKING ON THE PROBLEMS OF BEING AN ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATOR.
Orv nicely inducted Karen Demetros who was sponsored by Gwen Smith.
Mychael introduced Mike Aubel who gave a briefing on the proposed Owego-Apalachin budget. In response to Wilma’s question, Mychael shared that the district has reduced the number of administrators from 13 in 1999 to 9 in 2005. Hal asked about PR and the person contracted through BOCES has increased the quality and quantity of communication with the community at a savings to the district (and also a smaller tax expense?) John Crosby is on a committee studying the organization and financing of BOCES.
Ernest Hemingway reported on the Bike activities and plans.
A sudden rush of divine or poetic inspiration. From the Latin afflare – to breathe or blow on. Inspiration itself means a breathing in. Why the ancients should have chosen the breath of the gods or muses - rather than their touch, voice, etc – as the means of communicating super-human knowledge or creativity is not quite clear. While dining out with your beloved, you might suddenly put down you knife and fork, gasp, strike your forehead with your hand, lean forward tensely, and say, in unconcealed agitation: "Jennifer, I think that I’ve just had an afflatus!"
Those who get too big for their britches will be exposed in the end.
